Theme: The Church as a Missional Incubator: How to Turn Hare-Brained Ideas into Sustainable Ministries without Losing Your Soul (or Your Shirt)

Description: Millennials’ “entrepreneurial spirit” extends to their religious lives as well, evidenced in the ways young people search for new forms of meaning and purpose outside the church. In the ancient and monastic worlds, this entrepreneurial quest led young people into the church, not out of it. Nobody wants to go back in time—yet it serves us well to remember that once churches were their communities’ most important hubs of creativity. Our work together will seek to recover the church's innovative DNA for mission. We’ll meet some ministries that have successfully leveraged Christian tradition's ancient connection to innovation to become significant spiritual and creative hubs—and we’ll launch a process to help your congregation leverage tools like design thinking and other contemporary creative processes to spur missional innovation and entrepreneurial ministries in your community.

The event will also include large group gatherings around the church seasons and breakout sessions with topics of grace, United Methodist History and United Methodist lingo as well as Holy Clubs throughout the weekend.
Not meant to be the only confirmation youth go through, the Confirmation Retreat should be complimentary to what a church is or will be doing.

*Mark Twain meets Francis Asbury

July 26 – 29, 2018

A Workshop of Homiletics, Humor and Storytelling

Be it known to all gathered here that storytellers Bil Lepp and Andy Offutt Irwin are united in their belief in the importance of developing narrative arcs within homiletic compositions by incorporating-in part-humor to increase emotional-cognitive comprehension.

In other words, if your congregation is engrossed in a story, and they are laughing, they are listening and learning!

And, clearly, Bil and Andy hope you join them on the coast of Georgia at balmy Epworth By The Sea so that they may continue being busily employed.

And who wants to hang out with just preachers?
